Light A Cigar

How to light a cigar? What lighters to use?

Lighting a cigar is not always the way you may think, so that's why Findy Cigars in South Tampa, FL is here to help!

Lighting a cigar is very different from lighting a cigarette, and if you are new to the cigar world, it can take some getting used to. The process takes far longer and requires a great deal of patience, but it is worth the reward. If, at first, you don't get the process right, simply try again, as practice makes perfect.

It is important to ensure that your cigar is properly lit as this means that it will have an even burn when you are smoking it. The wrapper, binder and filler of the cigar all contribute to the overall flavour of the cigar; therefore, it needs to burn easily to get the true taste of the product.

Before you start thinking about lighting your cigar, it is important to cut the end of it, to allow space for the air to pass through it when you are smoking. The best way to do this is using a cigar cutter at Findy Cigar Company & Hookah Lounge in South Tampa, FL.

How To Light A Cigar- The Step-By-Step Guide

Step 1 – When lighting your cigar, think of how you would cook a marshmallow over an open flame. Simply sweeping the flame over it will not ensure it is properly cooked. Similarly, with a cigar, you will need to hold the cigar over the flame without it directly touching it. It is important to avoid touching the flame as this can make the cigar too hot. If this occurs by accident, move it away from the flame as quickly as possible to cool it down.

Step 2 – Once you have placed your cigar over the flame, rotate it slowly to ensure that all sides of the cigar are heated at an equal level. Keep turning it until you see a glowing ring all the way around the end of the cigar, with a slightly blackened layer around the sides at the top of the cigar.

Step 3 – Once the cigar is let correctly, bring it towards your mouth, placing the side that is unlit between your lips. When drawing your breath in and taking a puff of the cigar, the glowing embers at the end should burn. If they do not, it may need some more time over the flame to heat it further.

What Should I Use To Light My Cigar?

The flavours of a cigar can be very subtle, and because of this, it is important not to use any type of flame that will change this flavour. Lighters that are fuelled with oil, sulphur matches, or candles can change the flavour, so these should be avoided.

Instead, try using a cedar spill or matches that do not contain sulphur (extra long matches are suggested as lighting a cigar takes time). If you only have a traditional lighter, then consider burning the flame for a minute before placing it under your cigar.

The best way to light a cigar, however, comes in the form of lighters that are specifically only for cigars. These are generally fuelled by butane which doesn't change the flavour of the cigars.

We know it may sound easy but there are always steps to take before doing anything, and we want to make sure you have a wonderful experience when you smoke your cigars. Come in and see us today at Findy Cigar Company & Hookah Lounge in South Tampa, FL
